You know what they say about Wrexham? That the best thing about it is a bus to get you out of the city. I’m sorry Wrexham people- that’s probably something you can hear about most of the cities. And as I may agree that there are not that many eye catching places in Wrexham, all you have to do is just get outside the city and explore.
Just on the outskirts of Wrexham you can find the most magical river walk- Plas Power and Nant Mill Woods. If you are driving you can either leave your car at Nant Mill Visitor Centre Car Park (LL11 3BT) or in Bersham- there is a layby outside St Mary’s Power Plas Church (LL14 4LL), Both car parks are on the either side of the river walk- just chose whichever one is more convenient for you! There is a small fee at Nant Mill Visitor Centre Car Park.
And if you, like me, rely on a public transport- there is no bus to either Nant Mill or Bersham but about an hour walk from Wrexham Bus Station- but it is worth it.

This short walk- only about 2 kilometers between both car parks- takes you through the ancient woodland alongside river Clywedog and is a part of 6-mile Clywedog Trail.
I have started from Bersham and only after few minutes I came across one of the most stunning waterfalls I have ever seen- Nant Mill Waterfall also known as Bersham Waterfall.

Waterfall itself isn’t high but there is something magical about it. Maybe it is the way cascades fall into the small pool or maybe the way water catches the light. You can almost imagine standing at the edge of it, while water brushes your feet.
Apparently this hidden gem is a quite popular spot for a cold dip in the waters below- but on a Monday afternoon I’ve had the whole place just to myself! And as I wasn’t prepared this time- on my next visit I may brave the dip too!

If cold dips are not for you but you want to have some fun- why not to jump on some stepping stones? You will find them walking alongside the river just past the waterfall.
This river walk is peaceful and serene, and although I’ve experienced the most glorious weather that day I bet is equally beautiful ona cloudy or even a rainy day. Maybe just bring your hiking boots in case the trail becomes bit too muddy π

Soon you reach the gate and come across beautiful Grade II-listed stone bridge and Nant Mill itself- 19th century corn mill that has been converted to a visitor centre.
Next to Nant Mill you can find a picnic area and a playground for kids. What a beautiful place for a family day out! There are also toilets but have been locked when I got there.

If you, like me, started at Bersham- it’s time to turn back and do the whole walk in reverse- hurray! Or alternatively- you can carry alongside Clywedog Trail to Minera Lead Mines- I wish I had more time on the day to do so!

In one short sentence- Plas Power and Nant Mill Woods are more than worth a visit. Maybe it is true- the best thing is a bus out of the city. Any city.
